High school is a critical time for students who want to get into the best universities and colleges locally or abroad. USCA Academy’s qualified specialists can assist students who want to get into the Ontario College Application Service (OCAS), the centralized hub, to apply for courses in various colleges. USCA Academy offers OCAS programs to support local and international students in acquiring their Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD), the prime requirement for college applications in Canada. Many universities also consider OSSD to be a qualification for many courses. However, some colleges may accept any equivalent degree. 

How to sign up 

Students must secure their OCAS login details, particularly a username and password, at OntarioColleges.ca before they can log in. From there, they can follow these steps:

 

·   Open an account and fill out the sections relevant to their academic profile and personal information

·      Find the program(s) they want and add them

·     Request a transcript of students. Those who are currently enrolled in an Ontario high school don’t have to worry, as the authority automatically sends their credits or grades to the Ontario College Application Service. Otherwise, they can ask their high school authority about it.

·    Pay the fees for application processing and the transcript (if any) 

While completing OCAS programs, students can log in to check the status of their transcript information and watch out for errors. Additionally, they can make necessary updates or changes in their application. 

It's important to note that changes made to program choices through the OCAS after the 1^st of February can influence the offers students receive from universities. Applications are handled on a first-come, first-served basis starting from this date. Therefore, if a student removes a college option from their application, it signals a disinterest in that program, and the college is immediately informed of this decision.

Additional admission requirements to know 

Some students have better chances of getting into their preferred OCAS programs if they use Prior Learning Assessment and Recognition (PLAR). This qualification evaluates the knowledge and skills of a student from outside the classroom, continuing education, volunteer work, life experience, work experience, or other avenues. The results can be considered as academic credit when retraining, upgrading, or pursuing a college education in Ontario after joining the workforce. 

Finding a program 

OCAS programs are available to both Canadian and international applicants. Local students can check at OntarioColleges.ca/en/programs, while international students must confirm the application requirements and program availability at the college website.

When is the best time to apply? 

The start dates for programs at various universities and colleges vary throughout the academic year. Therefore, students should verify if their desired program is currently accepting applications by visiting the OCAS website. They can also reach out to the Admissions office of the specific university they are interested in. 

Things to know before applying

·   The application processing fee covers up to five choices of programs. However, students cannot apply to more than three programs at any one college.

·       All choices in programs must begin in the same academic year, which is August-July.

·       Transcripts may include additional fees when requested

·       Ensure a permanent username when signing up at OCAS

·       Have a valid email address

·       Make a secure password with eight to 14 characters

·       Avoid creating multiple accounts

·    The application form works best in web browsers like Edge, the latest versions of Chrome and Firefox, and Safari 12+ on IOS 13+. Otherwise, it may not load properly. 

Dates to remember

·       October: Many programs open their application from the following fall

·       November 1: Admission offers may be distributed by colleges at this point

·    February 1: Students must apply to highly competitive programs before or on this date, which is also known as Equal Consideration Date

·       May 1: Colleges confirm offers by this date but may extend when necessary

·       Mid-June: By this time, students must pay their tuition deposit 

What about international students? 

USCA Academy is open to international students who aim to complete their high school education in Canada and pursue higher studies at North American universities. Similar to Canadian students, international students can apply to college programs that have available spots, provided they fulfill the specific English proficiency and admission requirements of the school. Students can find information about seat availability on the websites of the respective colleges. 

However, it's important for international students to be aware that certain highly competitive programs might not accept international applications. Typically, colleges give priority to Ontario permanent residents. Therefore, while the OCAS might be accessible to Canadian residents, it may not be available to international students if the program does not have designated international seats.

Here are more considerations for international students before navigating OCAS programs:

 

·    Ensure they have all the necessary documentation for timely processing. Some colleges accept electronic copies of documents, but it’s best to check with them to prepare accordingly.

·       Learn the programs that are open to international applications.

·       Verify the program’s status to make sure it is open for applications.

·       Review the start date and availability of the program.

·       Assess the admission requirements to determine eligibility for the program.

·   Have copies of certified and translated academic documents, including a copy of their passport’s first page.

·     Colleges have different application fees, which must be paid electronically before submitting an application.

·  Ontario college programs can start at any time, so students can choose when to start studying.
